New look" Fish Sanctuary"

This is the new look "Fish Sanctuary " in Saltwater Creek at the Collins Avenue bridge. We should hang our heads in shame if this is the way we manage our sanctuaries.

  1. I agree Brian. So much for fish habitat!! I haven't been 'game' to go to the site since they started the destruction. Are they going to clear both sides of the creek?

  2. Tom and Moz,The Council's aim is to clear one side or the other of Saltwater Cr. from Collins Ave. to Greenslopes St. and re-veg with 'select' mangroves with the view to maintaining a hedge row of 1.5 m over which a swing arm excavator can remove any unwanted mangroves and sediment at whatever interval is deemed necessary. It would appear that any opportunity to ascertain the "good environmental outcome" predicted by council for this re-veg work has been lost because so far as I am aware no fauna assessment was carried out before work commenced and none was planned after. Council has assured me that in future with work of this nature, fauna surveys will be done. I say that is a start.
